Hollander Distillery

מזקקת הולנדר

Winery · Mateh Yehuda Regional Council religious department, mehadrin

47 HaBrosh Street, Beit Meir, Beit Meir

A family distillery in Moshav Beit Meir in the Jerusalem hills that makes fruit liqueurs and schnapps from Israeli fruit, with tours and tastings by booking

Hollander Distillery carries on a family trade that its history traces to the winery and distillery of Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Hollander in Nitra, Slovakia, in 1930, and to a great-grandfather who built a still from scrap tin in an Italian internment camp; the family began rebuilding the business in 2012, lost the distillery's plot to the fires of 2016 and rebuilt it in Beit Meir from 2017. It makes two lines from fruit brought straight from growers in the Jerusalem and Judean hills, the northern Golan, the upper Galilee, the Beit She'an valley and the Arava: natural liqueurs and fine schnapps. The visitor centre faces the hills and serves cocktails and snacks, and hour-long tours with tastings run on Wednesday and Thursday at 11:00 and 13:00, beside a workshop pairing fruit distillates with cured and smoked fish, sunset tours and cocktail workshops, all bookable in English or German. Every visit is booked ahead, a tour can be cancelled up to 24 hours before, and the shop sells the full range.

The home page and the contact page give Monday to Friday, 09:00 to 15:00; the visitor centre's questions page gives Sunday to Thursday 09:00 to 15:00 and Friday 09:00 to 14:00, so Sunday is not settled. Every visit is by arrangement, and the distillery asks people to call before coming.
