Beside ancient Mamshit, 6 km east of Dimona, Dimona

A camel ranch beside ancient Mamshit, east of Dimona, with camel treks into the Negev and air-conditioned desert huts for the night.

The ranch was founded in 1986 in the eastern Negev, on the northern Incense Route beside the Nabataean town of Mamshit, and it breeds and trains riding camels; it calls its herd of riding she-camels the largest in Israel. Treks of one, two and four hours set out from the ranch, with a guide's account of the animals, plants and history of the Negev, and entry to the ranch itself is free. Guests sleep in twelve air-conditioned desert huts, which the ranch calls its million-star hotel, and can order breakfast and the camel herders' vegetarian dinner: bread baked on hot stones, lentil stew and vegetable stew. The ranch keeps things quiet, with no barbecues or loud music, and dogs are not admitted. Overnight guests who come by train or bus are collected from Dimona free of charge.
