Moshav Ganei Tal, Ganei Tal

A visitors' centre, boutique roastery and café set among coffee orchards in moshav Ganei Tal, run by a farming family that grows coffee in Israel

Mataim Coffee Farm belongs to a family that calls itself farmers who love coffee. Its site says that when they saw climate change threatening the regions where coffee grows, they decided to bring the crop to Israel and develop varieties that cope with changing conditions, and drank their first cup four years after planting; today they grow five varieties from around the world and serve as a trial centre for growing coffee in Israel. Around the orchards are a roastery with blends for espresso, filter, moka pot and black coffee, and a café with seating indoors and outdoors in every season and takeaway. During opening hours visitors walk on their own between the stations of a tour that runs from the seedling to the cup, and the farm also holds coffee workshops and sells its own avocados, honeys and dates on the spot. The regional council's tourism site says the visitors' centre and café took two years to build.
