A family estate winery among its own vineyards in Gedera, kept by the fourth generation of a family of vine growers.
Kahanov is a family estate winery set in the middle of the family's vineyards in Gedera. Its site tells of Eliezer Kahanov, an agronomist who came from Europe as a pioneer early in the twentieth century and planted his first vineyard; his son enlarged the farm to hundreds of dunams, and the family still grows vines around Gedera, on both sides of Road 40 and along the Sorek stream. About one percent of the family's crop, from the best plots, goes to the winery, and the wine is made by hand and unfiltered: the Biluim series, aged about six months in barrels, the Kahanov series, aged close to two years, magnums aged about 40 months, a port-style wine and a sweet wine. On weekdays visits and tastings are by arrangement ahead. On Fridays it holds a guided tasting with boutique cheeses in the winery yard, and it sells picnic baskets for the vineyards. Gedera's local council names it on its visitors' pages as the way to round off a day in the moshava.
