Shvilim Bamidbar is a compound of guest rooms in Moshav Hatzeva in the Arava. The council's business board counts 11 rooms, six for families and five for couples, built ecologically, with two sleeping huts for groups; at the centre is a desert khan with mats and mattresses, hammocks, seating corners, a dining room and a kitchen for guests to cook in, and a corner of tea, coffee and dates. Its site says the place has a standard protected space, and that guests can order a desert menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner: Bedouin taboon pitas, labaneh, spiced rice and stews. Tours leave from here with Boaz Oz, a licensed tour guide of 25 years who lives in Hatzeva and leads groups by jeep, on foot and by bicycle, and the business also puts on yoga, food and photography workshops. The same business runs Ras Hashita, a khan in the open desert about five kilometres away. The board says the compound is open every day of the week, Shabbat and holidays included.
