7 Klil Street, Lotem, Lotem

An organic boutique winery on a cliff at the edge of Kibbutz Lotem, near Karmiel, with tastings and local food on a wide wooden deck looking out towards the Sea of Galilee

Lotem Winery was founded in 2010 on a cliffside at the edge of Kibbutz Lotem, and its site says it is the largest organic winery in Israel. Early in 2023 it was bought by Dr Yuval Samuel, the owner of Amphorae winery, and its winemaker is Hitam Bishara. Its wines come in three series: the Lotem series and one from each of its two organic vineyards, Tzivon, at 750 metres on the slopes of Mount Meron, and Shifon, on the western slopes of Tel Shifon in the central Golan. A visit opens with a tasting at the door, then guests sit down and choose one of three tasting flights, with explanations about the vineyards and a look at the production floor and the barrel room beside the visitor centre. The kitchen serves local dishes beside the wine, including a cheese platter from the Shirat Ro'im dairy with jams and spreads made on site, and on Fridays the winery holds a Kabbalat Shabbat with free-flowing wine and six changing dishes for the table; it also hosts evenings with guest chefs, music and a harvest party.
