Edge of Merhav Am, Merhav Am

A desert khan on the edge of Merhav Am, built by hand from recycled materials by two families, with zimmers, apartments, a round khan and the Zulato café

Khan Merhav Am stands on the edge of Merhav Am, a religious community in Ramat Negev, and was set up by two young families, the Krigers and the Tamarkins, who met there about 17 years ago; they built it with their own hands from recycled materials. It offers khan lodging, a round khan with its own paddling pool, a wooden zimmer and family apartments facing the desert with private paddling pools, guest rooms for walkers and a camping lawn, with coffee corners, a central kitchen and dining room, barbecue and campfire spots and shower blocks around the site. On Shabbat it is set up for religious families, and it hosts celebrations, company days and workshops. Its café, Zulato, serves coffee, herbal tea and dishes on a porch looking over the Sde Boker valley; the site asks guests to check ahead whether it is open in season.
