Yaffo Winery began with Moshe Celniker, who met Anne, of an old Alsace family, while studying physiotherapy in Strasbourg in the 1970s, and stayed seven years in France, where her family's bond with the land and its home wines drew him to wine. After years as physiotherapists in Israel they opened the winery in 1998 in a small building in Jaffa, which gave it its name, planted their own vineyards in the Elah Valley, and in 2006 moved the winery into its present building beside them in Moshav Neve Michael. Their eldest son Stephan, an agronomy graduate who studied winemaking in Burgundy and trained at a winery in Bordeaux, joined in 2007 and makes the wine. The vineyards grow Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and Cabernet Franc, and the wines are kosher. On Fridays the winery hosts tastings of five or six red and white wines with the story of the winery and a cheese platter, booked through its booking page, and it holds private and business events for up to 50 people.
