Winery

Moshav Nir Akiva, Nir Akiva

A family boutique winery on a farm in Moshav Nir Akiva in the north-western Negev, founded in 2002 by Sigalit and Assaf Galai, with weekend tastings beside its vineyard

Galai Winery was founded in 2002 by Sigalit and Assaf Galai on a farm in Nir Akiva that they bought in 1996, run down and overgrown with thorns, where they planted a one-hectare vineyard of red varieties in 2000. The family makes its wines by hand in small series, from the vines beside the house and, since the 2022 harvest, from plots near Mitzpe Ramon: red wines such as Casa-Negev, Marselan, Papillon and Bacchus, a white Blanc de Noirs from Cabernet Sauvignon since 2015, a rosé since 2016 and Sweetie, a port-style dessert wine. Its visitor centre opens on Fridays and Saturdays for a look at the winery, a walk in the vineyard with a glass in hand, tastings with cheeses and local foods at tables facing the fields, and wine to buy and take home; midweek it hosts groups by arrangement. Its site says it was named best boutique winery, among wineries making 10,000 to 100,000 bottles a year, at the TerraVino 2026 international competition, and that the figure on its label comes from a silver box made by Assaf's great-grandfather, a jeweller who worked for the House of Fabergé.
