Route 44, opposite Karmei Yosef, between Karmei Yosef and Pedaya, Pedaya

A family estate winery set among its vineyards on Route 44 between Karmei Yosef and Pedaya, making wine since 2001

Bravdo Winery was founded in 2001 as an estate winery in the heart of the Shoseyov family's vineyards. The idea was Zuri Arkin's, a food engineer and the son-in-law of Professor Ben-Ami Bravdo, a vine and wine expert, together with Professor Oded Shoseyov, whose doctorate dealt with the biochemistry of wine aroma. The first Cabernet Sauvignon was picked in 2001 from a plot planted in 1989 and made into about 2,000 bottles; today the winery makes about 70,000 bottles a year of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz, a Coupage blend, Sauvignon Blanc, rosé and Chardonnay, plus a premium Landmark series, each wine from a single vineyard. At the visitor centre, about half an hour from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, a member of the family pours a glass with light refreshments, walks guests through the vineyards and explains how the wine is made. It also sells picnic baskets with a bottle of its wine, cheeses from Ivry Dairy and bread from the Yankale bakery, and runs wine workshops and team days for companies.
