A kosher sushi and Asian restaurant on a covered rooftop over the Rishon LeZion promenade, with a cocktail bar facing the Mediterranean

Umino is a kosher sushi and Asian restaurant on a covered rooftop at 14 HaTayelet, the promenade above Rishon LeZion's beach. By its own account the name comes from Japanese: umi is the sea, and umi no means "of the sea". It was founded in 2023 by the PASEO group, led by the brothers Ariel and Gil, who had spent years in Tel Aviv's nightlife, hospitality and restaurants and wanted a kosher sushi restaurant facing the sea. It began at 6 HaTayelet, the address Channel 13 gave in 2024, mako in 2025 and the kashrut list still gives, and has since gone "up a floor", in its words, to the rooftop at number 14, with a larger kitchen and two hosting spaces. TALA Thai Kitchen, the group's kosher Thai restaurant, opened in its first home in the summer of 2026, and the group also runs Paseo, a rooftop bar on the same promenade. Sushi is at the centre of the menu, with special rolls, nigiri, maki and combination platters, alongside raw dishes such as crispy rice with tuna tartare, bao buns, wok noodles and Sichuan beef, and the bar pours cocktails, wine, sake and spirits. Its website describes the day in three parts: lunch in full light from 12:00, the golden hour at the bar from 17:00 to 19:30, which it calls the most sought-after hour, when the window tables are taken first, and the night, when the bar is at its height. It is kosher under the Rishon LeZion rabbinate, closes for Shabbat and opens again half an hour after it ends, and it recommends booking for evenings and weekends. It holds private and company events in two spaces, the bar for up to 50 guests and the restaurant for up to 70, or 130 together, and sends out sushi platters for delivery or collection. Channel 13 put it on its list of 13 restaurants with a sea view in May 2024, and mako included it among the kosher-for-Passover restaurants of April 2025.
