Matnat Midbar is a family farm on Road 40 between Tlalim and Sde Boker, which Lilach Bar Meshulam and her husband Gabi settled in autumn 2002 with a one-year-old, a small tent, a mat and a shade net, on land they first had to clear of waste from a nearby concrete works and a long-standing army camp. It has two roomy family zimmers with private plunge pools and wood stoves, and a private khan on a hill facing east to Nahal Heiman and the Halukim ridge, let to one group of 10 to 40 at a time, with its own kitchen, porch, campfire circle and plunge pool. Around them are farm animals such as horses and chickens, saffron fields and a vineyard whose wine the farm makes; groups of 10 or more can book a vineyard tour with a guided tasting, and a circular walk of about half an hour leaves from the khan through the chalk beds of Nahal Heiman.
