Hotel · Mateh Yehuda Regional Council religious department

Yad HaShmona, Yad HaShmona

A 50-room hotel of Finnish pine-log rooms and a new Superior wing on a wooded ridge 700 m up at Moshav Yad HaShmona, with a biblical garden and a chef's brunch on Thursdays and Fridays

Logos is the new name of the Yad HaShmona Country Hotel, on a forested ridge 700 m above sea level at Moshav Yad HaShmona in the Judean Hills, 17 km from Jerusalem by its own account. The moshav was founded in 1974 by Finnish Christians in memory of eight Jewish refugees whom Finland handed over to the Nazis, and the hotel's 35 Classic rooms are built of solid Finnish pine; a new wing added 15 Superior rooms with balconies or gardens, and the older rooms were renovated. Its restaurant, built of massive Finnish timber, is run by Louisa's culinary centre under chef Nadav Malin, cooking with produce from small farms, vegetable growers and cheesemakers, sourdough breads and fish from the Sea of Galilee and the Dan, all of it local by the hotel's account; it serves guests' breakfast and a brunch open to the public on Thursdays and Fridays. Guests also have a gym and a sauna, and free entry to an indoor heated pool in Neve Ilan, three minutes' drive away. Beside the hotel is a biblical garden of archaeological reconstructions, with olive groves, vines, a wheat field, a winepress, an olive press and an open-air synagogue, visited by appointment.
