A bus driver was killed and 19 other people were hurt when his bus and a truck collided on Route 91 close to Mahanayim junction in northern Israel on October 14, 2026, according to Magen David Adom, the national emergency medical service. Magen David Adom said its paramedics pronounced the 61-year-old bus driver dead after attempts to resuscitate him failed.

The truck driver, a man of around 50, was in serious condition with injuries to his lower limbs and was flown to hospital by a Magen David Adom helicopter, the service said. Ambulances took another 18 people, described as being about 20 years old and lightly injured, to Ziv hospital. Ynet reported the same toll of one dead and 19 injured, describing the lightly hurt passengers as young people.

How the first reports unfolded

The first Magen David Adom statement said its call centre in the Yarden region received word of the crash at 12:00 through 101, the service's emergency number. At that stage the service said two men were in serious condition and several bus passengers had light injuries. An early Ynet alert likewise reported that both the bus driver and the truck driver had been seriously hurt.

Within roughly half an hour the picture changed. A later Ynet alert reported that the bus driver had been declared dead, and Magen David Adom's update confirmed the death and gave the breakdown of the wounded. The Jerusalem Post also reported one person killed and 19 injured in the collision, publishing a photograph of emergency teams at the scene credited to the Israel Police spokesperson's unit.

Who responded

Magen David Adom, whose name means "Red Shield of David", is Israel's national ambulance and emergency medical organisation and a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Its medics and paramedics provide first response at road crashes, and it operates air ambulances alongside its ground fleet. In its statements the service distinguishes between injuries it classifies as serious and those it classifies as light, the standard categories used in Israeli casualty reporting.

Ynet is the news website of the Yedioth Ahronoth group, one of Israel's largest media organisations, and its alerts channel publishes short breaking-news updates as stories develop.

Where the crash happened

Mahanayim junction lies in the Upper Galilee, in Israel's north. Route 91 is an east to west road in the region that links the Galilee with the Golan Heights. Ziv hospital, where the lightly injured were taken, is the main medical centre serving this part of the country. Magen David Adom did not name the hospital to which the truck driver was flown.

Agreement between the reports

The organisations reporting the crash agree on its core facts: a collision between a bus and a truck near Mahanayim junction, the death of the bus driver, serious injuries to the truck driver and 18 light injuries among the bus passengers. The only shift in the record came from the early reports, which listed the bus driver as seriously injured before his death was confirmed. None of the later reports contradicts another.

What the reports do not say

None of the reports explains how the collision occurred, which vehicle may have been at fault, or whether the police have opened an investigation, although the Jerusalem Post photograph indicates police were present at the scene. The reports do not name the bus driver or the truck driver, and they do not say who the passengers were or where the bus was travelling. Ynet's description of them as young people and Magen David Adom's estimate of their age are the only details given. There is no information on whether the road was closed or for how long, and no update on the truck driver's condition after he reached hospital.
