Man, 21, seriously hurt with penetrating wounds in Shibli, Lower Galilee

A 21-year-old man was seriously injured in the village of Shibli in the Lower Galilee, in what the Israeli broadcaster N12 described as a shooting. N12's news flash service reported that medical teams from Magen David Adom treated the man at the scene and then took him to HaEmek hospital with penetrating injuries.

Magen David Adom's own spokesperson's office gave a similar account. According to the Magen David Adom statement, its 101 emergency call centre in the Gilboa region received a report at 00:22 of a person hurt in a violent incident in Shibli. Emergency medical technicians and paramedics gave him medical care and evacuated him to HaEmek hospital. The service said the man was in serious condition and had penetrating wounds.

What Magen David Adom is

Magen David Adom, often shortened to MDA, is Israel's national emergency medical and ambulance service, broadly comparable to a Red Cross society elsewhere. Members of the public reach it by dialling 101, the country's number for medical emergencies. Calls are handled by regional dispatch centres, and the statement places this call with the Gilboa region, which covers part of northern Israel. MDA routinely publishes short updates on incidents its crews attend, usually giving the time a call came in, the patient's age and sex, a description of the injury and the hospital they were taken to. Those statements describe the medical picture only. They do not normally address who was responsible or why an incident happened, which is a matter for the police.

Shibli lies in the Lower Galilee, the hilly area of northern Israel south and west of the Sea of Galilee. It is a Bedouin Arab community near Mount Tabor. How the two accounts differ

The two reports agree on the core facts: the man's age, the location, the seriousness of his condition, the penetrating nature of his injuries and the hospital he was taken to. They differ in how they describe the event itself. N12 called it a shooting. The Magen David Adom statement did not mention gunfire and referred more generally to a violent incident. Penetrating injuries can be caused by bullets but also by other weapons, and the emergency service's wording does not itself confirm how the man was hurt. N12 did not say where its description of a shooting came from.

There is also a small difference of phrasing about the medical response. N12 described MDA crews having already treated and evacuated the man, while the MDA statement described its medics and paramedics as treating him and taking him to hospital, suggesting the statement was issued while the response was still under way.

Neither report identifies the injured man beyond his age and sex. Neither says whether police have opened an investigation, whether any suspect has been identified or detained, or what may have led to the incident. N12 describes a shooting, but no police statement is included in the material to confirm that account, and MDA's description stops at a violent incident. The reports do not say exactly where in Shibli the man was found, whether anyone else was hurt, or what his condition was after arriving at HaEmek hospital.
