One portion out of 54 is theirs.

The Torah is read through every year, a portion each Shabbat. The one read on the Shabbat of a bar or bat mitzvah is the portion they learn, chant and speak about, and it stays theirs for life.

If a festival takes the place of the regular reading that week, the print says so and gives the next portion. If the family has already set a different Shabbat, enter it and the print follows.

The Torah is read through once a year in 54 portions. A bar or bat mitzvah portion is usually the one read on the first Shabbat on or after the Hebrew birthday.

What you get.

  • Found for them

The same calendar code as our Torah portion page works out the Hebrew birthday and the reading, including the weeks when Israel and the rest of the world read different portions.

  • The verse, in Hebrew and English

The portion's opening verse in Hebrew with its vowels, and in the 1917 Jewish Publication Society translation.

  • Museum-quality matte paper

Thick 189 g/m² paper with a matte finish that does not glare under a lamp, so the small type stays readable.

  • Framed and ready to hang

A wood frame in black, white or oak, three quarters of an inch deep, with a clear acrylic front and the hanging hardware included.

Who it is for.

  • The bar or bat mitzvah

A gift about them, not about the party, to go with the cheque.

  • One of the twelve or thirteen gifts

Where a bat mitzvah gets twelve gifts and a bar mitzvah thirteen, this is the one that stays on the wall.

  • From the grandparents

The portion the whole family will hear them read.

  • For the tutor or the rabbi

A thank-you with the portion they prepared together.

Why we made it.

The portion prints we found all ask you to know the portion already. Our Torah portion page works it out every week, so the print does it for you.

Questions before you order

How do you find the portion?+

From the date of birth we work out the Hebrew date, then the Hebrew birthday at 12 or 13, then the first Shabbat on or after it, and the portion read that Shabbat in Israel or outside it, as you choose.

Our synagogue chose a different Shabbat. Can I use it?+

Yes. Enter the Shabbat of the ceremony and the print gives that week's portion instead.

Is it right for a bat mitzvah at 12?+

Yes. Choose bat mitzvah at 12 or bar mitzvah at 13 and the Hebrew birthday is counted to that age.

Can I see it before I pay?+

Yes. The picture on this page redraws with every answer, and it is drawn by the same code as the file we print. Nothing goes in the basket until your own picture has drawn.

How long does delivery take?+

Each piece is made to order, which takes two to five working days, and then it is posted. Most orders reach US addresses in two to three weeks and Israeli addresses in three to four. We email the tracking link the day it ships.

Can I send it straight to someone as a gift?+

Yes. Put their address in at checkout and it goes straight to them.

What if it arrives damaged or misprinted?+

Reply to your order email with a photo and we send a new one, free.
