15 Derech Hefer, Beit Yitzhak, Beit Yitzhak-Sha'ar Hefer

A family boutique winery on Derech Hefer in Beit Yitzhak, with a visitor centre and restaurant among vines and pecan trees, guided cellar tours and a weekly Friday gathering

Alexander Winery was founded in 1996 by Yoram Shalom in Moshav Beit Yitzhak and is named for his late father Alexander; its site traces the family's home winemaking back to Tunisia and Italy, and its labels carry prints of jewellery made by his mother's family of goldsmiths. Its grapes come from growers in the Upper Galilee on long-term contracts, and the Alexander the Great series is made from a vineyard more than 40 years old. The visitor centre looks over a vineyard and pecan trees and serves cheese platters, chermoula, salads, focaccia and baked camembert with the winery's wines by the glass or the bottle, or as a tasting flight. Guided tours take groups from the visitor centre through the grape reception, the tank farm and the barrel cellar, with four wines to taste, and on Fridays the winery opens with a new theme each week of music, food and wine.
