Beit HaKnesset Street, Ein Vered

An artisan sourdough bakery in Ein Vered, in a restored early building that was the moshav's cold store and hatchery and a British-era arms cache.

Argaz Lehem is an artisan bakery, a boulangerie, that bakes sourdough breads by hand from flour, water and salt, with no yeast, preservatives or additives, proofed slowly for more than 24 hours. It began with breads alone and now also bakes home-style loaves, challahs, croissants and other pastries. Its building served the moshav's founders as a potato cold store and a hatchery and hid weapons under British rule; it has been renovated to keep that past. The shelves fill as the week goes on, to a peak on Friday: orders placed on its site are collected that Friday, and visitors can sit with a coffee and a pastry or stock up for a picnic.
