Moshav HaYogev, HaYogev

The farm shop of the Carmel family's hydroponic farm in Moshav HaYogev, selling its own greens and free-range eggs beside local wine, cheese and bread

The Carmel family's farm was founded in Moshav HaYogev in the 1950s; three generations of farmers stand behind it, and the children's generation runs it today. It grows lettuces, sprouts, asparagus, Broccomini, snow peas and sweet corn, much of it in hydroponic greenhouses, and keeps a free-range hen house. The shop began as eggs sold from the family's porch, grew into a self-service fridge and then a green stall, and is now a shop that gets produce straight from the packing house every day. Beside the farm's own vegetables and eggs it sells seasonal fruit and vegetables, wine from the region's wineries, cheeses from the moshav's dairy, goat and sheep cheeses, sourdough breads, dips, crackers, honey and olive oil from the local press, surplus produce at reduced prices and gift packs. The family keeps a second shop in Karkur.
