Ein al-Jouz, Isfiya

A country restaurant in Isfiya built around Mayasi Halabi's handmade cheeses and her cheese-making workshops

Mayasi Cheese is a country restaurant in Ein al-Jouz, Isfiya, built around the cheeses Mayasi Halabi makes by hand, and run by a team of women. By its own account it began in 2017 with the cheese-making workshops she gave to women of the community, using milk from the cows her father raised, and opened with a few tables in the family yard. The menu runs from breakfasts and platters of cheeses and spreads to shakshuka, salads, pizza and sandwiches, and it also sells cheeses, cheese-making kits and ingredients. Each month it holds up to four open cheese-making workshops, besides private workshops and team days, and it opens every day of the week, Saturday included; its phone line answers Sunday to Thursday until 13:30.
