The Olive Tree is a hotel of 304 rooms and suites on Saint George Street, in the American Colony neighbourhood, beside a light rail stop and a short way from the Old City. A large olive tree stands at its centre, and its site tells the legend that pilgrims rested in its shade on their way to the holy places. The hotel was designed in the manner of the old inns of the area, with a patio walled in Jerusalem stone around the tree, columns, arches and hand-made mosaics. Its site lists a menu that gives the Jerusalem kitchen a leading place, a seasonal café outside the hotel, and halls for conferences and events. The rooms look over the city, and some have a private balcony with a sunbed.
