Moshav Kerem Ben Zimra, Kerem Ben Zimra

A family winery in the heart of Moshav Kerem Ben Zimra, with a stone visitors' centre facing the vineyards and Lebanon, guided tastings on Thursdays and vineyard tours by jeep

Ben Zimra Winery stands in the heart of Moshav Kerem Ben Zimra, 850 metres above sea level, and was founded in 2003. It belongs to the Buzu family, farmers who came to the moshav in the 1950s and have grown wine grapes for other Israeli wineries for more than 40 years; its vineyards, planted from 1984 on the deep basalt soil of the Dalton plateau at 750 to 900 metres, supply all of its own wine. The visitors' centre, an old stone building looking out over the moshav's vineyards and orchards to Lebanon, serves wine with cheeses, vegan ones among them, dips, pastries and pizza from the taboon, and sells local olives, olive oil, honey products and chocolates, picnic baskets, and cakes from the Madame Alkalay patisserie next door. Guided tastings of four wines for 70 shekels, or six with the premium wines for 100, are held on Thursdays, a couple's brunch with tastings, a cheese plate and a taboon pizza costs 315, and a guided jeep tour of its two main vineyards, for guests 18 and over, costs 250 a person.
