28 HaRishonim Street, Metula

A boutique hotel and Shami restaurant in the first settlers' stone houses on Metula's HaRishonim Street, a short walk from the Ayun stream reserve

Beit Shalom stands in the yard where Yocheved and Haim Moshe Fine, the first couple to settle Metula in 1896, raised their eleven children, and their grandson Haim Hod-Fine and his wife Miriam restored the family's stone houses into a hotel of 13 rooms and suites for couples, by its own site. The neighbours' old house is now its restaurant, where chef Mustafa Salili, from Ghajar, has cooked Shami food, Syrian, Lebanese and the Galilee farmers' kind, for more than 15 years; breakfast, brunch and dinner are served by booking ahead. Breakfast keeps to the farm: olives pressed for oil, fig jam from a tree planted 120 years ago, farm cheeses, and Miriam's apple cake from a family recipe, which its site says people come from far away for. The hotel also has a spa, a conference room and Miriam Hod's fibre-art gallery, and the waterfalls of the Ayun stream reserve are a five-minute walk away.
