Neot Semadar's winery makes organic wines, liqueurs and other drinks from the kibbutz's own vineyards and orchards, the southernmost vineyard in Israel by its own account, where Cabernet, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz and Muscat Canelli grow in desert heat, cold nights and poor, salty soil. The grapes ferment with wild yeast only, the wine is coarsely filtered and kept with the minimum of sulphur the organic standard allows, and several of its wines have won medals in Israel and abroad. A visit starts in the art centre, which members of the community built by hand over about fifteen years as the kibbutz's visitor centre, around a tower that cools the whole building passively: a short film, the workshops, a lookout over the Arava and the mountains of Edom, a gallery shop of work by the kibbutz's artists, and a tasting at the winery. Tickets are 40 shekels, or 30 for children aged 6 to 18, pensioners, students, soldiers, disability card holders and the inn's customers, and the winery's wines are also sold at Pundak Neot Semadar and online.
