Ramot Naftaly Winery was founded in 2003 by Yitzhak Cohen, whose parents came from Benghazi in 1949 and in 1963 joined the group that founded Moshav Ramot Naftali. Cohen, a farmer, was general manager of the Golan Heights Winery in its early years, which is where, by the winery's account, the dream of a boutique winery of his own began; he later trained as a cellar master at Tel Hai College and is still its chief winemaker, while Shlomo Azoulay, who grew up in neighbouring Dishon, is in charge of production. The vineyards grow in the Kadesh Valley, enclosed by the Naftali mountains, and the winery stands in the family's yard beside a home vineyard, with a cooled barrel room of new French oak; it makes about 10,000 bottles a year, among them Kadesh, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Barbera, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Gewürztraminer. Its site says the winery became kosher in 2009 and that all its wines have since been made under the supervision of the regional rabbinate. The visitor centre runs a guided tour and tasting of about 45 minutes, for visitors aged 18 and over.
