Aminadav Fry was born in 1918 in Tel Aviv
Aminadav Fry, born Ami Perlin, was born in Tel Aviv in 1918. His mother's family had lived in the land for many generations. He studied at the Hebrew Reali School in Haifa.
He began university studies in Britain but returned home and joined the Haganah. During World War II he enlisted in the British Army and completed an officers' course. Near the end of the war and after it, he took part in Aliyah Bet operations, bringing Holocaust refugees to the country and helping absorb them.
When the state was founded he joined the IDF and fought in the War of Independence with the Alexandroni Brigade. He was one of the founders of the Intelligence Corps. In 1952 he became IDF Spokesperson with the rank of lieutenant colonel, and also served as personal spokesman for chiefs of staff Yigael Yadin and Mordechai Maklef.
His term saw Yadin's resignation, the creation of the Border Police in 1953, and the setting of military funeral procedures. He kept an open media policy. He left the post in July 1953.
He then held posts in the Intelligence Corps, including commander of Unit 515, later Unit 8200. In 1959 he became IDF attaché to Italy, Switzerland and Yugoslavia. He left the IDF in 1961 and died in 1990.
