Avraham Shain was born in 1942
Avraham Shain was born in Rishon LeZion in 1942. His parents came from Germany.
He served in the IDF in a paratroopers brigade. Later, as a reservist, he served in the Yom Kippur War.
After his army service he joined Bank Hapoalim, starting as a cashier in 1963. He became an accountant and a deputy branch manager. From 1973 to 1983 he managed the bank's Shenkar branch.
During those years he published several books of poetry. In 1992 he left the bank and began selling his poems, printed on colored paper, around the country and mostly near cultural institutions in Tel Aviv. He has taken part in exhibitions and poetry performances, and he represents an anti-establishment current in Israeli poetry that prints and publishes its own work.
In 1999 director Gidi Dar released the documentary film Shain about his life. The film was shown at the Berlin International Film Festival and the New York Film Festival.
