Bar Refaeli was born on June 4, 1985, in Olesh and moved with her family to Hod HaSharon. Her father, Rafi Refaeli, owned a horse stable, and her mother, Tzipi, was a model. She first appeared in a commercial at 8 months old and studied at Hadarim High School in Hod HaSharon.

Before her draft date she married a family friend and received an exemption from IDF service, then divorced. The IDF rejected the family's claims of improper treatment, and the exemption drew public criticism in Israel.

In 2000 she was named Model of the Year in Israel and worked for brands such as Castro and Pilpel. She debuted in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue in 2007 and was its cover model in 2009. She also modeled for international brands and appeared on many magazine covers abroad.

She acted in the series Pick Up in 2005 and in the films Session and Kidon. She hosted The X Factor Israel from 2013 and co-hosted Eurovision 2019 with Erez Tal. She invested in companies including Carolina Lemke, Under.me, Mika Look and MyCheck.
