Dalya Raz was born in 1937

Dalya Raz was born in Haifa in 1937. Her father, Noah, worked at the Vulcan factory, and her mother, Aliza Cooper, was a kindergarten teacher. She graduated from the Hebrew Reali School.

She joined the IDF in 1955 and served in the Nahal as a squad commander and later a company commander. She then moved to the Navy, where she became head of a personnel branch. In 1975 she became Chief Women's Corps Officer.

In that role she opened many jobs to women, including service on vessels, infantry and armor instruction, and technical trades. A course allowing professional women soldiers to become officers also began under her. These changes let women serve in Lebanon during the First Lebanon War.

After retiring as a colonel in 1983, she became spokesperson of the Society for the Protection of Nature in Israel. In 1989 she joined the Haifa city council and led the absorption of immigrants from the Soviet Union in the city.

In 1959 she married Gideon Rosman, an artillery officer who changed the family name to Raz. They had 2 sons, both Air Force pilots, and separated in 2000.
