Doron Koren was born on January 30, 1954, at Kibbutz Ramat HaKovesh. He spent 2 years in Moshav Tkuma and from age 6 lived and studied in Lod.
He served in the Golani reconnaissance unit. He then lived in Jerusalem for 7 years, where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology. Later he lived 10 years in Tel Aviv, where he began working in literature and journalism, married, and had 3 children.
He wrote reviews for Yedioth Ahronoth and Haaretz and was a critic for ynet and Kol Israel's radio literary program from 2006 to 2012. He translated prose and poetry, published a poetry book in 1989, and worked as a literary editor. He spent 10 years as an editor on the news desk of the newspaper Hadashot and now works as a rewrite editor at Haaretz's Galeria supplement.
He graduated from the Mandel School for Educational Leadership and taught Bible and literature. A 2009 Haaretz piece on his experience as a middle school Bible teacher drew wide public reaction and a meeting with Education Minister Gideon Sa'ar. In 2014 he argued in Haaretz that creationism should be taught alongside evolution.
He worked with his teacher Menachem Ben on a 2013 anthology of Hebrew poetry. In 2023 he edited and published a book of Ben's writings. He lives in Mazkeret Batya.
