Ehud Goldwasser was born in 1975 in Nahariya
Ehud "Udi" Goldwasser was born in Nahariya on 18 July 1975. As a teenager he lived in South Africa with his parents, Shlomo and Mickey, and his two younger brothers. He finished high school at Makif Amal in Nahariya, in a science track.
He served as a combat soldier in the Tzabar Battalion of the Givati Brigade. He studied environmental engineering at the Technion and later was a graduate student there. He also worked in photography, first as a hobby and later as a profession.
In 2005 he married Karnit, and the couple lived in Nesher. On 12 July 2006, during reserve duty, Hezbollah attacked his patrol near Zar'it and took him and Eldad Regev into Lebanon. Three other soldiers were killed in the attack, and Israel went to war in Lebanon.
His wife campaigned around the world for his release. On 16 July 2008 Hezbollah returned the bodies of Goldwasser and Regev in a prisoner exchange that included the release of Samir Kuntar. He was buried in the military cemetery in Nahariya on 17 July 2008 and was promoted after his death.
