Eitan-Zvi Plonski was born in 1952 in Megiddo

Eitan-Zvi Plonski was born in 1952 on Kibbutz Megiddo to Alexandra and David York, a Holocaust survivor. He was born premature, and at first his life was in danger. He played sports and was interested in music, poetry, history and the Bible.

He was active in the Hashomer Hatzair youth movement and served as a counselor. He studied science and biology at the Shomria school in Mishmar HaEmek and passed his matriculation exams. During high school he also took a youth course run by the Technion.

He was drafted into the IDF in November 1971. He passed tests for pilot training but missed its start date, so he joined the Golani Brigade reconnaissance company. He completed squad commander and combat medic courses and later taught in scout and squad commander courses.

In the Yom Kippur War he served as his company's combat medic. On 22 October 1973, in the second battle for the Hermon outpost, he moved under heavy Syrian fire toward his wounded company commander and radio operator and was shot dead. He was 21, was promoted to staff sergeant after his death and received the Chief of Staff Citation.

He was first buried temporarily in Nahariya and moved to his kibbutz in August 1974. His name appears on Golani Brigade and Medical Corps memorials, and a garden on his kibbutz is named for him.
