His parents, Nissan Adler and Leah Ganz, were Holocaust survivors who were held in British detention camps in Cyprus and later helped found Kibbutz HaOn, where they took the name Nishry. The family moved to Moshav Sdemot Dvora in 1955 and to Kiryat Motzkin in 1961.
He studied electronics at Bosmat in Haifa from 1967 and qualified as a practical engineer in 1971. In 1972 he joined the IDF and served in Unit 8200, fought in Sinai during the Yom Kippur War, and finished his service in 1976 as a technical officer.
He completed an electrical engineering degree at the Technion in 1979 and joined Rafael in 1980. There he worked on anti-jamming systems for radar and communication receivers and later on simulators for radar-guided missile development. He earned an EMBA at Tel Aviv University, attended the National Security College from 2005, and retired from Rafael in 2007.
In 1982 he settled in Gilon in the Galilee, where he was active in environmental issues. After retiring he studied history, wrote a master's thesis on the Clayton plan in 2012 and a doctorate in 2016 on British Labour Foreign Office moves against a Jewish state.
