His parents were communist activists, and his father served on the village council from 1959 to 1981. As a youth he belonged to the Israeli Communist Youth League and led the student council at his high school.
He studied philosophy at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and helped found a local music band in Rameh. In 1985 he moved to Sofia University in Bulgaria, where he completed a master's degree and led the local branch of the Israeli Communist Party. In 2025 the same university awarded him a doctorate in political science.
After returning to Israel in 1990, he taught psychometric preparation courses and later worked at the newspaper Al-Ittihad. Since 1997 he has managed the Israel Cancer Association's activity in Arab society, including raising awareness of the risks of hookah smoking.
In the party he chaired the central audit committee and served on the central committee and political bureau. In September 2026 Hadash chose him for the fourth slot on the Joint List, replacing Jaffar Farah after allegations of sexual misconduct, and he was elected to the Knesset.
