Harel Levy was born in 1978 in Nahshonim

Harel Levy was born on 5 August 1978 in Kibbutz Nahshonim. He began playing tennis at age 7. In 1992 his family moved to Ramat HaSharon so he could train at the Israel Tennis Centers, and that year he was No. 1 in Israel in the under-14 group.

Levy turned professional in 1995 and then served in the IDF, which let him compete during his service. He finished his military service in August 2000.

In 2000 he reached the final of the Masters tournament in Toronto, where he lost to Marat Safin. In 2001 he beat Pete Sampras at the Italian Open, reached the final at Nottingham and rose to No. 30 in the world. A hip injury that year led to surgery and hampered him for much of 2002.

Levy won the Israeli championship 5 times and many doubles titles. In 2008 he reached a doubles ranking of No. 71. In 2009 he won key Davis Cup matches as Israel reached the semifinal for the first time.

He announced his retirement from professional tennis in February 2011. In 2017 he was named captain of Israel's Davis Cup team.
