Herzl Rosenblum was born in 1903 in Kaunas
Rosenblum was born in Kaunas in 1903. After facing antisemitism and being barred from studying law, he moved to Vienna. There he studied law and economics and earned a doctorate.
He later moved to London and worked as an aide to Ze'ev Jabotinsky. In 1935 he immigrated to Mandate Palestine and joined the newspaper HaBoker, writing as Herzl Vardi.
In 1948 he signed the Declaration of Independence for the Revisionist movement. At David Ben-Gurion's request he signed as Vardi, a choice he later regretted.
After Ezriel Carlebach and other staff left to found Maariv, the Mozes family named Rosenblum editor of Yedioth Ahronoth. He wrote the daily editorial and expressed right-wing views, including opposition to the reparations agreement with Germany. Day-to-day editing was handled by Dov Yudkovsky.
He retired in 1986 and published his memoirs, Drops from the Sea. In 1988 he lit a torch at the Independence Day opening ceremony. He died in 1991, and his son Moshe Vardi also edited the paper.
