Ishtar was born in 1968 in Kiryat Ata

Esther "Eti" Zach was born on 10 November 1968 in Kiryat Ata. Her mother was of Egyptian-Jewish origin and her father of Moroccan-Jewish origin. She began singing in clubs at 14 and took the stage name Ishtar, which recalls her given name and a Mesopotamian goddess.

She served in the IDF as an aircraft mechanic and kept performing during her service. In 1994 she moved to France, where she sang in pubs, hotels and clubs. A producer introduced her to the group Los Niños de Sara, and together they performed as Alabina.

Alabina mixed flamenco, Arabic, pop and dance music and toured widely in the late 1990s. In 1998 the band opened for Carlos Santana in France. Ishtar sings in several languages, including Arabic, Hebrew, French and Spanish.

In 2000 she signed with Sony Columbia and released a solo album that included a new version of Naomi Shemer's "Horshat HaEkaliptus". She later released albums such as "Truly (Emet)", "7" and "Baila", a 2009 duet with Kobi Peretz, and acted in Benny Torati's 2012 film "Ballad of the Weeping Spring".

She is married to Michel, who is also her manager, and has twins. She returned to live in Israel with her family and in 2024 released the song "Child (L'Enfant)".
