Joseph Keshet

Joseph (Yossi) Keshet is an Israeli computer scientist and professor at the Technion who researches human speech processing and machine learning.

Joseph Keshet was born in 1973 in Tel Aviv

Keshet was born in Tel Aviv on 28 February 1973. He attended the Amal school in Tel Aviv.

He studied electrical engineering at Tel Aviv University and earned his B.Sc. with honors in 1994. After his army service he completed an M.Sc. there in 2002, supervised by Dan Chazan of IBM Research in Haifa. He earned his Ph.D. at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem under Yoram Singer, with a thesis on large margin algorithms for speech recognition.

From 1995 to 2002 he served in Unit 8200, where he headed the speech processing research section. He received an award from Maf'at for his work.

He did postdoctoral work at the IDIAP institute in Switzerland and in 2009 joined TTI-Chicago and the University of Chicago. In 2013 he returned to Israel, joined Bar-Ilan University and founded its Speech, Language, and Deep Learning Lab. In 2020 he became an Amazon Scholar and a venture partner at Disruptive AI, and in 2022 he joined the Technion.

His lab developed algorithms that detect throat and vocal cord conditions from a person's voice. Other work showed that AI systems such as Google's voice recognition can be fooled. He is married to Lital and has 3 children.
