Leah Rabin was born in 1928 in Königsberg

Leah Schloßberg was born in Königsberg, then in East Prussia, Germany, to parents born in Russia. In 1933 she moved with her family to Mandate Palestine. Her parents ran the Palatin Hotel in Tel Aviv.

She was a member of Hashomer Hatzair and served in a Palmach scouting unit. In 1943, while a high school student in Tel Aviv, she met Yitzhak Rabin. She later completed studies at a teachers' seminary.

The couple married in 1948, during the War of Independence, and had a daughter, Dalia, and a son, Yuval. From 1975 she chaired ALUT, an association for autistic children. She led Israel's delegation to the UN World Conference on Women in Mexico, where many delegations left the room when she spoke.

In 1977 a US bank account she held, illegal in Israel at the time, was exposed, and her husband resigned as prime minister. The case became known as the Dollar Account affair.

After her husband was assassinated in 1995, she worked to preserve his legacy and supported peace efforts. She backed Shimon Peres in 1996 and Ehud Barak in 1999, but later expressed reservations about Barak. She died of illness in 2000 and was buried beside her husband on Mount Herzl.
