Levi Mann was born in 1927

Levi Mann was born in Chortkov, Poland, the youngest son of Fruma and Yair Mann. In April 1936 the family moved to the Land of Israel and set up a farm in Kfar Baruch. His father died a year later, and the four sons ran the farm.

He joined the Haganah in 1941 and later fought in Golani Brigade as a platoon commander in the War of Independence. He went on to command a battalion and serve as a deputy brigade commander in armor units through the Six-Day War and the Yom Kippur War.

In 1954 he married Gina Shmaragd and settled in Kibbutz Beit HaShita, where they raised four children. He worked in field crops and the poultry branch and was elected kibbutz secretary in 1968. During his terms the kibbutz shifted its economic focus from farming to industry and built a new dining hall.

In 1982 Defense Minister Ariel Sharon appointed him head of the Youth and Nahal Division in the Defense Ministry, a post he held until 1984. He was then elected kibbutz secretary again and later returned to work at the Haroshet Matechet factory. He died in Beit HaShita in 2012 and was buried there.
