Moshe Oron was born in 1937 in Berehove

Moshe Oron was born Moshe Ackerman in 1937 in Berehove, Czechoslovakia, and grew up in Belgium. During World War II he was hidden in a convent orphanage run by nuns, while his family members hid separately. The family survived the Holocaust, but most of his parents' relatives were killed.

In 1949 the family immigrated to Israel and lived in a transit camp before settling in Kiryat Yam. He finished elementary school but did not attend high school, and worked as an electrician's assistant.

He volunteered for the navy, trained as a radar operator and served on the frigate INS Misgav and the destroyer INS Eilat. He later worked as a clerk at Bank Leumi in Haifa and took part in reserve voyages.

He returned to the navy and completed the naval officers course in 1961. He served on all types of navy vessels, commanded the tactical training facility and the naval control unit, and finished as commander of the Red Sea arena. He died in 2020.
