Mosheh Bigel was born on February 21, 1955, to Holocaust survivors from Transylvania. He grew up in Bnei Brak. He studied at Yeshivat HaYishuv HeHadash in Tel Aviv and then at Mercaz HaRav in Jerusalem, where he studied under Rabbi Zvi Yehuda Kook, Rabbi Avraham Shapira and Rabbi Shaul Yisraeli.

He served in the IDF Artillery Corps and was discharged as a lieutenant. After marrying, he studied in the kollel in Yamit under Rabbi Yaakov Ariel and trained in ruling on Jewish law. He received rabbinic ordination from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and a teaching certificate from Herzog College.

After the evacuation of Yamit, his family moved to Ganei Tal in Gush Katif. He served briefly as rabbi of Gan Or, then moved to Neve Dekalim, and helped found the Torah and Land Institute. He was chosen as rabbi of Meitar and later also became rabbi of Karmit.

His main field is kashrut in the industrial age, and he has published hundreds of articles on it. He has lectured at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and Hemdat Hadarom College and is a member of the Tzohar rabbinic organization. In 2010 he joined a rabbis' letter supporting Rabbi Shmuel Eliyahu's call not to sell or rent apartments to Arabs, which led to protests outside his home.

He is married to Hania, daughter of Rabbi Avraham Silbert, and they have 8 children.
