Moti Dor-On was born in 1941 in Jerusalem
Mordechai (Moti) Dor-On, originally Dreikurs, was born in Jerusalem. He attended the Hebrew University Secondary School and studied electrical engineering at the Technion through the IDF academic reserve program.
In 1963 he joined the technical branch of Unit 515, later Unit 8200, as an engineer. He founded a team that built and maintained the unit's bases and reception systems, and he helped develop a collection system for a source used in the Six-Day War. In 1969 he was among the officers asked to plan a major upgrade of the unit's equipment, and in 1973 he received the Israel Defense Prize.
He became a colonel and head of the unit's technical center in 1976, and deputy commander in 1980. In 1984 he was promoted to brigadier general and named commander of Unit 8200. His command focused on keeping warning capabilities after the withdrawal from Sinai under the peace treaty with Egypt.
He left the IDF in 1987 and worked at Elta Systems and then at NICE, where he headed the government systems division. He also served in the reserves on a military research ranking committee, which he chaired until 2017. He was married to Lilit, they raised 3 children in Tel Mond, and he died in 2019.
