Motty Steinmets was born in 1992 in Rehovot
Steinmetz was born in 1992 in Rehovot to a family of the Vizhnitz Hasidic community. He is the fourth of 9 children of Moshe and Rebecca Steinmetz. As a small child he moved with his family to Kiryat Vizhnitz in Bnei Brak.
He studied at the Hasidic community's schools and yeshivas and worked at night alongside his studies. His grandfather, who moved to Israel from Antwerp, taught him traditional Vizhnitz tunes. As a young man he sang at weddings and bar mitzvahs in his community.
He began working with arranger Ruvi Banet, who became his manager, and with composer Shlomo Yehuda Rechnitz. In 2017 he released his debut album Haneshama Bekirbi, which reached platinum status in Israel. In 2018 he released the duet Nafshi with Ishay Ribo and appeared in a Kan 11 documentary series.
Steinmetz does not perform to mixed audiences of men and women without separation. In 2019 a women's group challenged his gender-segregated concert in Afula in court, and the High Court ruled against the segregation as the concert was ending. A later men-only concert in Haifa was blocked by a court.
In 2015 he married Malka Weisel, and the couple has 2 daughters. On January 1, 2022 he released his second album, Atik Yomin.
