Nathan Seiberg was born in 1956 in Tel Aviv

Nathan Seiberg was born in Tel Aviv on September 22, 1956. As a child he took part in a youth science camp held at the Soreq Nuclear Research Center.

He completed a bachelor's degree in physics with honors at Tel Aviv University in 1977. He then served 5 years in the IDF. At the same time he worked on a doctorate at the Weizmann Institute under Haim Harari, which he finished in 1982.

He taught at the Weizmann Institute and became a full professor there in 1989. From 1989 to 1997 he was a professor at Rutgers University. Since 1997 he has been a professor at the Institute for Advanced Study, the first Israeli to hold a post there, and since 1998 a visiting professor at Princeton University.

His research covers supersymmetric field theories and string theory. With Edward Witten he developed Seiberg-Witten theory, and he also described the duality named Seiberg duality and discovered little string theories. He received the Oskar Klein Medal, a MacArthur Fellowship, the Dannie Heineman Prize, the Breakthrough Prize in Fundamental Physics and the Dirac Medal.

He is married to Dr. Miri Seiberg, a senior figure at Johnson & Johnson.
