Nathan Friedman-Yellin was born in 1913 in Grodno, in the Russian Empire. His father, a builder, was drafted into the Russian Army during World War I and did not return. The family moved to Lipsko, where he attended a Polish public school.

He finished the Tarbut Hebrew gymnasium in Grodno in 1932 and studied engineering at the Warsaw Polytechnic. He was active in Betar and later joined the Irgun in Poland. From 1938 to 1939 he edited Di Tat, the Irgun's Yiddish newspaper in Poland.

He reached the Land of Israel in 1941 and joined Lehi under the name Gera. Arrested near Aleppo in December 1941, he was held at Mizra and Latrun, and escaped through a tunnel with 19 comrades in 1943. He then became one of Lehi's 3 leaders, in charge of its political activity.

After the 1948 killing of Count Folke Bernadotte, he was charged with leading a terrorist organization and convicted in 1949. He was sentenced to 8 years but was soon pardoned. He founded the Fighters' List and was its only member in the first Knesset.

Later he moved to the left and supported talks with the PLO. In 1956 he helped found Semitic Action and edited its journal Etgar. He died in 1980.
