Oded Goldreich was born on February 4, 1957, in Tel Aviv. He studied computer science at the Technion, earning his bachelor's degree in 1980, his master's in 1982 and his doctorate in 1983 under Shimon Even.

From 1983 to 1986 he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He joined the Technion faculty in 1983 and became an associate professor in 1988. In 1994 he moved to the Weizmann Institute of Science, where he became a full professor in 1995.

His research covers pseudorandom functions, zero knowledge proofs, secure multi-party computation and property testing. He wrote several books, including the two volumes of Foundations of Cryptography. He won the Knuth Prize in 2017.

In 2021 a committee chose him for the Israel Prize in mathematics. Education ministers blocked the award over claims that he supported the BDS movement, which he denied. In March 2022 the High Court ruled that the prize must be awarded to him.
