Ram Oren was born in 1936 in Tel Aviv

Oren was born in Tel Aviv in 1936 and grew up in the Shapira neighborhood. His father was a bookbinder who brought books home for the family to read. Some of his stories and poems appeared in children's papers of the time.

At 15 he started at Yediot Aharonot as a messenger boy, and he was a correspondent for the paper from 1952 to 1955. From 1955 to 1958 he served in the IDF as a reporter for Bamahane. He then studied law at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem from 1958 to 1963.

From 1964 to 1994 he worked again at Yediot Aharonot. He edited the 7 Days supplement, served as the paper's chief correspondent in New York and became its legal adviser.

His first book, Seduction, came out in 1994 and sold poorly until he appeared on Dan Shilon's television show. The book then became a bestseller, and a film based on it was made in 2002. In 1996 he founded the Keshet publishing house, and in 2002 he published his first historical novel, Latrun.

In 2004 he joined the Kan media group as head of its content division, a group that was dissolved in 2007. His books have been translated into languages including English and French. He has been married to Nitza since 1961, they have 3 children and they live in Tel Aviv.
