Ronnie Kosloff was born in 1948 in Los Angeles

Kosloff was born in Los Angeles in 1948, while his parents were there for his father's medical treatment. His father, Israel (Ray) Kosloff, headed Electrochemical Industries of Israel, and his mother, Jane Kosloff-Kadmon, was an artist. The family returned to Israel in 1949, and he grew up in Jerusalem before moving to Haifa in 1958.

He finished the Hebrew Reali School in Haifa in 1966 and then served in the Armored Corps. From 1969 he studied physics and chemistry at the Hebrew University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1972. He went on to a master's degree and a PhD in chemistry under Raphael Levine, submitting his doctorate in 1978.

From 1978 he was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Chicago. He then joined the Institute of Chemistry at the Hebrew University, becoming a full professor in 1990. He headed the Fritz Haber Center for Molecular Dynamics from 1992 to 1998 and held the Sonneborn chair from 2002 to 2020.

His research developed methods for solving the time dependent Schrödinger equation for molecules. With David Tannor and Stuart Rice he created the pump-dump scheme for coherent control, and he began the dynamical study of quantum heat engines.

He retired in 2020 and was elected to Academia Europaea in 2021. He is married to Yaffa and lives in Beit HaKerem in Jerusalem.
