Shmuel Wosner was born in 1913 in Vienna

Wosner was born in Vienna in 1913 to Yosef Tzvi Wosner and Rachel Schiff. His family was modern, but he chose to devote his life to Torah study.

He studied at yeshivas in Nitra and in Zelem, and later at Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin in Poland under Rabbi Meir Shapiro. He married Rivka Gelber in Pressburg, where he was ordained and served as a rabbinic decisor.

After the Anschluss he and his wife immigrated to the Land of Israel, arriving in December 1938. In Jerusalem he studied with Rabbi Yosef Tzvi Dushinsky and was appointed a judge of the Edah HaChareidis rabbinic court.

In Bnei Brak he became rabbi of the Zichron Meir neighborhood and founded Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin there. He wrote Shevet HaLevi, a series of halakhic responsa in 10 volumes. In 2012 he spoke by live link to a gathering at Citi Field on the dangers of the internet.

He died in Bnei Brak in 2015. About 100,000 people attended his funeral, where overcrowding caused 2 deaths.
